Biography

Denis Thompson retired as Major-General in 2017 from the Canadian Armed Forces after 39 years of service. He held command appointments in Cyprus, Germany and Bosnia and was NATO’s Commander of Task Force Kandahar in 2008, the brigade-level formation conducting the ISAF mission in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. Subsequently, he was Commander of Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) prior to his final appointment as Force Commander of the Multinational Force & Observers, in the Sinai, Egypt from 2014 to 2017. Earlier in his career, he was seconded to Foreign Affairs and was also Director of Peace Keeping Policy in DND.
