WIIS-Queen's 2018 Speaker Series
From October 22 to November 13th, WIIS-Queen's is hosting a month long speaker series in collaboration with WPG (Women for Professional Growth)! Women hold a wide variety of positions in the field of International Security, all with unique experiences. This series provides an amazing opportunity to hear their first-hand accounts in the field, with a different speaker each week from a diverse range of women with practical experience in International Security.

On Thursday November 15, Stéphanie Martel will discuss her research on International Relations
Stéphanie Martel is an Assistant Professor of Political Studies at Queen’s University and a Fellow at the Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP). Martel’s research focuses on multilateral diplomacy, security regionalism and the role of discourse in International Relations. Martel is also an executive member of the Canadian Council for Southeast Asian Studies, and frequently travels to East and Southeast Asia for academic and political work.

On Thursday November 1, Rasha Fahim will discuss her career as a Settlement Worker.
As a Settlement Worker for both Kingston and the Immigration Services Program, Rasha is involved in aiding refugees transition to life in Canada. Being an Arabic speaker, she supports newcomers from Syria as well as aiding their integration into the community through local organizations such as women’s and children’s groups.

On Tuesday, October 23, LCol Lisa Elliott will be discussing her career in Military Intelligence. Joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1989, LCol Elliott has served in multiple intelligence operations and positions, including senior Intelligence Advisor to the Commander of the 1st Canadian Division (Red Devils), and in 2016 was commander of Canada's largest intelligence unit. She is now an instructor at the Canadian Army Command and Staff College, with a Master’s of Defence and Management Policy, along with a Master’s of Art in War Studies.
