About:

Thomas Hughes is a Ph.D Candidate in the Department of Political Studies.  He received his MA in International Security (Denver); and his BAH History (Durham). During his association with the Centre he has served as first editor of the Centre's papers and in-house publications; been the lead on the Gender, Women and International Security project, culminating in a workshop held in Herstmonceaux, UK; and is currently working on projects within the CIDP scope of the Canadian Defence and Security Network (CDSN). He has been actively involved with WIIS-Queen's, and the CIDP Gender Lab.

Thomas's current research interests are: 

  • deterrence,
  • coercive diplomacy, and
  • military technology, particularly with regards to cyber security and air power
