New Classroom Technology Connection Guide
Welcome to your new classroom!
Each classroom comes equipped with a touch panel. Note that the options you see on your touch panel may vary from one classroom to another.
To project a screen from your device, click “Start projector.” Then:
- Make sure your device is switched off before connecting it to the podium.
- Select the type of device you are using. (Note that options may vary from one classroom to another).
- These are the different types of connectors available in each classroom. If your device requires a special adapter to plug into one of these connectors, please bring it with you.
- From the top, we have the HDMI cable, the mini display port, an auxiliary audio cable, and the network cable. If your computer comes equipped with an ethernet port, we recommend use the network cable. Wireless connections are available if you don’t have an ethernet port.
- Should your device require a power source, please use the power outlet located on the cable cubby. Please press firmly to open.

Connecting the device
- Plug the appropriate cable into the corresponding port on your device to connect to the projector.
- Turn on your device after it has been plugged in to the podium.
- Select the type of device you are using from the touch screen.
- Note that other sources are available too, such as the document camera.
Using the Document Camera
- To present using the document camera, on the touch panel, select “document camera”.
- You will be taken to the document camera control panel. There are zoom and focus buttons for controlling the document camera.
- Tap the zoom in or out buttons for fine adjustments.
- Hold the zoom in or out button for continuous zoom.
- Hit “close” to return to the “source” menu
Using Lecture Capture
- To record a lecture - use a good quality USB stick formatted as FAT32 or NTFS and insert in correct port
- Wait for the green light to show that the USB stick has mounted correctly then press record
- The record button goes solid red to indicate recording is in progress, and the green light flashes
- Press mark to create a chapter point
- Press pause if there is something you do not want to record, the pause light will flash
- Press record to resume recording
- Press stop to end recording session. Wait for the green light to stop flashing before removing the USB stick
- You can also record a lecture using the same buttons on the touch panel
Using the microphones
- Microphones are available in the charging station on the podium.
- Remove the microphone from the charging station and be sure to clip the microphone on correctly, onto the shirt in the middle of the chest. Ensure the microphone is switched on.
- When you are finished with the microphone, please return it to the charger so the batteries remain charged for the next person to use the room.
Using the Catchbox microphone
- The Catchbox microphone is used for students to participate in large lecture halls. It amplifies their voice so that it can be heard by the professor and by other students.
- Simply twist the microphone out of the catch box and switch it on.
- Be sure to place the microphone back in the catch box correctly by aligned the triangles on each piece.
- When you are ready to use the Catchbox, toss it to the student.
- When you are finished with the Catchbox, please remember to turn it off to conserve battery life.
Finishing up
- Do not forget to turn off the projector when you have finished in the classroom.
