Lyubov MargolinaA secondary school textbook supported by the Centre's project 'Building Democracy in Ukraine' has won a national competition for a textbook for the final year of high school in Ukraine. The competition was held by the Ministry of Education to choose a new text for a social science and humanities course that is part of the compulsory curriculum for all students in Grade XI.

The winning text was based on the Project's secondary school textbook Civic Education: the Fundamentals of Democracy? which has been approved by the Ministry for a new optional civic education course for students doing a concentration in social science.

The new text will be published by the Ministry. It will be used in 20,000 secondary schools with an annual enrolment of more than 200,000 students.

The new text has been written by three of the authors of the civic education textbook, among them the Project's Director in Ukraine: Lyubov Margolina.
