This event marks the third comedy production by The Hysterics, a collective founded by Lindsay Rodgers, PhD Candidate in Cultural Studies at Queen’s. The collective and event both grew out of Rodgers’ dissertation focused on contemporary live stand-up comedy performed by women and gender-non-conforming comics. The Hysterics Collective is a Katarokwi/Kingston-based feminist comedy group. We aim to make spaces and occupy stages. We’re here to have fun. We’re here to laugh. And we’re here to assert an anti-oppressive presence within comedy. Our previous shows have been at capacity–the city is craving comedy that punches up! We are inviting a curated set of comics to fill the stage that otherwise don’t typically get the mic: voices that are feminist, queer, trans, racialized.
