Information for International Students

Cultural Studies welcomes applications from qualified international students. Please note, however, that you will be required to pay the international student rate of tuition, currently $12,927.45 + fees per year.

If you are applying for a PhD program, please note that we will only accept students who are fully funded. This means you must have a scholarship from an overseas government or educational agency, or you must receive an International Tuition Award (ITA) from Queen's University. Normally, the Cultural Studies program can only give two ITAs per year. This means that we can accept only the very best PhD applications from international students.

If you are applying to the MA program, we may be able to accept students who are self-funded. We also have a limited amount of financial aid available to international MA students, but it is unlikely to cover the full cost of your studies.

International applicants are strongly urged to contact us (cs.office@queensu.ca) before submitting an application.

The Cultural Studies program has a minimum funding guarantee program for full-time students. This guarantees a set amount of funding over the lifetime of the program as follows. International PhD students receive $92,000 over four years ($23,000 per year). Funding is designed to cover tuition and to help offset costs of living. It does not completely cover living expenses in Kingston.

There are additional funding sources for Queen's International student. More information about those sources can be found below:
