Ione L. Taylor “Heritage of the Petroleum Geologist” honoree

Congratulations to Ione L. Taylor as one of the 100 “Heritage of the Petroleum Geologist” honorees selected by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) as part of their 100 Year Celebration.  AAPG is one of the world's largest international professional geological societies with more than 35,000 members worldwide.  AAPG works to advance the science of geology, especially as it relates to petroleum, natural gas, and mineral resources, and to promote the technology of exploring for, finding, and producing these materials in an economically and environmentally sound manner.

During its Centennial Year, the AAPG honored 100 petroleum geologists – one for each of the 100 years since the Association was established in Tulsa, OK in 1917.  Ione Taylor was nominated and selected to receive this honor; one of only 8 women included.  This award goes to individuals in the oil and gas industry who are “known for substantial industry contributions and for taking a proactive role in passing on knowledge and experience to future generations”.  A profile of Ione’s career including accomplishments, disappointments, lessons learned (often the hard way), and career advice is featured in the book, “Heritage of the Petroleum Geologist” by Sternbach, et.al, 2017.  Honorees were feted at a luncheon during the Centennial Celebration Meeting in Houston, TX in April during which they networked with Young Professionals to inspire, with shared advice and encouragement, this next generation of petroleum geologists.
