Victor Armony is FQRSC Professor and Chair of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Sociology at the University of Quebec at Montreal and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Ottawa. He is also a the Editor in Chief of the Canadian Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Director of the Observatory of the Americas at the University of Québec at Montréal, a Research Director at the Canada Research Chair on Globalization, Citizenship and Democracy, a Member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and a Co-Director (Spoke 4) at the Inter-Disciplinary Research Center on Québec Diversity (CRIDAQ). He has published and lectured extensively in the field of identity, citizenship, and political discourse. His latest book is Le Québec expliqué aux immigrants (VLB Éditeur, 2007). Most recently, he contributed chapters to New Perspectives on Democracy in Latin America: Actors, Institutions and Practices (Blackwell, 2009), The New ISA Handbook of Contemporary Sociology: Conflict, Competition, Cooperation (Sage, 2009), and Introduction au développement international(University of Ottawa Press, 2008).
