Fields of Study

The Department of English at Queen’s is known for its commitment to geographic and historical breadth. Our faculty research and teach in all major periods of traditional English literary history, while offering interdisciplinary and transhistorical courses related to such themes as race, gender, animality, and the city.
Our faculty expertise is especially rich in Renaissance literature, Modernist literature, and the literature of the Long Nineteenth Century. Some of our faculty are engaged in collaborative research extending beyond the department in such areas as the environmental humanities, Indigenous / settler relations, and comics studies.
