Dissertation
My doctoral project is interested in Islamophobia studies, cultural trauma, and the identity construction of Muslim millennials. I examine the literature and cultural production of young Muslims who came of age and have been shaped by the ongoing “War on Terror” era. I view young Muslim’s emerging engagement with art and popular culture – ranging from novels, poetry, stand-up comedy, hip hop, and spoken word poetry – as responses to the rise of Islamophobia and neo-Orientalism.
