SSC Virtual Seminar Series: Catherine Stinson

SSC Virtual Seminar Series: Catherine Stinson

When:
Wednesday, February 2, 2022
12:30 PM – 2:00 PM
Where:
Description:

Deep Learning (DL) networks are the current great hope for artificial intelligence. They have achieved impressive feats like approaching or surpassing human performance on image recognition (including facial recognition) and language translation. They also fail in ways that raise equity and security concerns. The focus here is on so-called adversarial examples, which are prompts (images, texts, etc.) for which DL networks make wildly incorrect judgments if the prompt is perturbed in a very minimal way, such as changing a few pixels in an image. In evaluating how we ought to react to this challenge to DL’s ability to perform perceptual tasks, a comparison is made to human susceptibility to perceptual illusions, and philosophical accounts of robustness are consulted.

Love Your Career

Where:
ONLINE (Zoom)
Find on Campus Map
Description:

Is the day-in, day-out getting you down? Feel like you're stuck in a rut? Miss that spark of new adventures?

Show your career a little love this Valentine's Day and reignite your passion for leading change by joining our mentorship matchmaking extravaganza. The Foundational Leadership Alumni Group is pleased to invited both mentors and mentees to sign up for Love Your Career, a speed dating-style session.

Why mentorship? Because building relationships and getting fresh perspective can help you set career and educational goals, overcome challenges, and introduce new ways of thinking.

How it works

  • Sign up to be a mentor, mentee or both. Don't worry, being a mentor isn't a big deal. If you want to help and you've worked anywhere for more than a few days, you have something to offer. We want your expertise!
  • On February 14, we will have 5-10 minute virtual break-out rooms for individuals (either one-to-one or in small groups) to introduce themselves. We will aim to have 4-5 rounds of interactions so lots of connections get made.
  • We'll briefly debrief and then send you on your way to connect with someone you've met in the session and continue your conversation around exploring the potential of a mentorship match.
  • All attendees will receive links to mentorship resources.

See you on February 14 at 11 a.m. Sign up today!
