Founded in 1987, PARTEQ Innovations was a not-for-profit corporation formed to help Queen’s University researchers commercialize their intellectual property arising from university research and acted as the technology transfer agent for the university.

In 2017, the university established The Office of Partnerships and Innovation (OPI), which is an integration of PARTEQ Innovation, Industry Partnerships and Innovation Park at Queen’s University. The OPI now has the Technology Transfer Unit, which provides the commercial and intellectual property expertise that is needed to advance research-based inventions/technologies toward the marketplace. The Unit, which receives invention disclosures from university faculty, staff and students (and researchers/staff from partner institutions), investigates inventorship, and proposes and implements agreed-to intellectual property and commercialization strategies to accelerate research impacts. The Technology Transfer Unit also provides support to technology-based regional startups under the Federal government’s Canada Accelerator and Incubator Program.
