AVAILABLE EXPERT: 12 dead after attack in Paris

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Queen’s University surveillance and security expert David Murakami Wood is available to comment on the Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris that left 12 dead after gunmen stormed the newspaper’s headquarters.

Charlie Hebdo, a satirical publication, has been firebombed in the past after publishing images lampooning Muslim leaders.

“This magazine has been playing with fire for a long time,” says Dr. Murakami Wood. “The publication was under police protection but that isn’t the same as military surveillance. And it also doesn’t matter how much information you have, it’s what you do with it. This isn’t like the attack on Parliament by a lone wolf terrorist – I would be very surprised if these people were unknown.”
