Available Expert - 2016 Presidential election campaign nears its conclusion

Monday, October 31, 2016

Two Queen’s University political experts are available for media interviews in advance of and in reaction to the results of the 2015 Presidential Election. The electoral cycle, which began over 19 months ago with the entry to the race of Republican Ted Cruz on March 23, 2015, has been rife with controversy – in particular since the entry of Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Kathy Brock (Political Studies/Policy Studies) is available to comment, prior to Nov. 8, on turning points in the race, what a Trump or Clinton Presidency would look like and the implications for Canada if either candidate wins the election. She will be available on Nov. 9 to provide analysis on the election results, campaign strategies and the impact of turning points in the race.

Elizabeth Goodyear-Grant (Political Studies) is available to comment ahead of the Nov. 8 election. Dr. Goodyear-Grant`s research focuses on elections and voting behaviour, representation of female candidates in the media, gender and political behaviour and the role of the media in politics. She will also be live-tweeting the results of the vote on Nov. 8.

The Department of Political Studies will also host a panel discussion and Q&A titled “What Just Happened? Explaining the US Election Results,” on November 9, from 7 to 8:30 pm in Memorial Hall at Kingston City Hall. The panel will consist of political studies professors Catherine Conaghan, David Haglund, Bruce Berman and Jessica Merolli, and will be moderated by Jonathan Rose. Media are invited to attend and are asked to RSVP.
