Available Expert - Angela Merkel seeks fourth term in German election

Friday, September 22, 2017

Queen's University political expert Grant Amyot will be available this Sunday, September 24 to comment and provide context on the German federal election, as well as its implications for the European Union.

On Sunday, voters will choose whether to elect Chancellor Angela Merkel to a fourth term. Polls currently show that Chancellor Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has a large lead, but could fall short of a majority government.

"Though polls show a strong likelihood of an Angela Merkel victory in Sunday's election, we should not forget that Germany will still be facing very serious problems over the term of the next parliament, both domestically and within Europe,” says Dr. Amyot.

Dr. Amyot is a professor in the Department of Political Studies at Queen's University. His research interests include the European Union, trade unions, economic policy and politics in Europe.

Dr. Amyot is available this Sunday, September 24 before 4 p.m. EST for phone calls. He can be reached directly at 613.876.2497
