AVAILABLE EXPERT - Bill C-51 Charter challenge

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Queen’s University immigration expert Sharry Aiken is available to comment on the Charter challenge being launched against Bill C-51. The controversial bill was introduced at the end of January and extends Canada's anti-terror laws. It is being challenged by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) and the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) on the basis that it infringes upon fundamental freedoms and privacies for Canadian citizens.

Professor Aiken sees Bill C-51 as a major setback for human rights and democracy in Canada and is very pleased to see it being challenged.
