AVAILABLE EXPERT: British parliamentary election 2015

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Queen’s University British politics expert Grégoire Webber is available to comment on the British parliamentary election results. The Conservatives defied the polls and won the election by a slim majority.

"The Conservatives have secured a majority, the leaders of the Labour, New Democracy, and U.K. Independence parties have all resigned, and the pro-independence Scottish Nationalist Party have swept Scotland. It an election that has re-made Britain," says Dr. Webber. "Canada's experience with the 1993 and 2010 elections provide some parallels to the political shake-up in the U.K."

Dr. Webber is a Canada Research Chair in Public Law and Philosophy of Law and has conducted extensive research on British politics, with a special focus on the United Kingdom's Parliament and the United Kingdom’s constitution. He has also lived in the United Kingom for eight years, with five of them spent as a professor at the London School of Economics.

Please note that Dr. Webber is based in Ottawa.
