AVAILABLE EXPERT - Canada Post, Canadian Union of Postal workers start mediation

Friday, August 26, 2016

Queen’s University expert Christo Aivalis is available to comment on Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers starting work with a special mediator in the face of a union threat of job action. The union representing nearly 51,000 employees issued a 72-hour notice of job action Thursday, accusing the Crown corporation of forcing a labour dispute.

“I don’t believe either side particularly wants a strike given the optics and the reality of just how important physical mail delivery continues to be,” says Dr. Aivalis. “That said, the main issues which played out almost two months ago (pensions, wage disparity, and position flexibility) are still for the most part outstanding.”
