Available Expert - Devastating wildfires spread across northern California

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Queen’s Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy fellow and wildfire expert Edward Struzik is available for comment on the devastating wildfires now spreading across northern California.

“Wildfires are burning bigger, hotter, faster and more often because of climate change and because more and more people are living, working and recreating in forested landscapes that are being ravaged by disease, drought, and insect infestations,” says Mr. Struzik. “The changes that are taking place will have an impact on the water we drink, the air we breathe, the wildlife we observe and on rural and First Nations communities located in the boreal world.”

Mr. Struzik is the author of Firestorm: How Wildfire Will Shape Our Future and will be moderating a panel discussion on wildfires at the University of Alberta later this month.
