AVAILABLE EXPERT: Hostage situation ends, better policies needed to prevent terrorism

Monday, December 15, 2014

Queen’s University radicalization expert Wagdy Loza is available to comment on the recently-ended siege in Sydney where a gunman took a café full of people hostage.

“The West must develop better comprehensive policies regarding the prevention and intervention with extremists and terrorists,” says Dr. Loza. “Political correctness, lack of understanding of the causes and utilizing individuals who do not possess the necessary background to undertake tasks of dealing with this phenomenon have been impediments to dealing with extremism/terrorism. Extremism/terrorism in the West will continue unless the whole issue is properly dealt with.”

Dr. Loza has developed the Assessment and Treatment of Radicalization Scale designed to measure Middle Eastern extremism and terrorism.
