Available Expert - Justin Trudeau addresses UN tomorrow

Monday, September 19, 2016

Queen’s University professor Kim Nossal is available to comment on the United National General Assembly and Justin Trudeau addressing the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. The address will be Prime Minister Trudeau’s first to the UN and comes six years after Canada’s failed bid for a seat at the UN Security Council.

“Whether he'll try and do this during his speech, or whether or not he'll simply lay the groundwork for a later pitch, he'll remind the governments there of Canada’s long record of support for the UN, and that the world could do well with having Canada’s voice on the Security Council,” Nossal says.

Dr. Nossal says Prime Minister Trudeau will need to bring not just a principled presence, but a vision for how to actually help solve global challenges such as terrorism, climate change and keeping Iran free of nuclear weapons.
