Available Expert - Montreal highway fire

Thursday, August 11, 2016

Queen's Civil Engineering Professor, Mark Green, is available to comment on how engineers may attempt to repair the damage caused by yesterday's explosion on Highway 40 West in Montreal. The highway was badly damaged after a tanker truck carrying over 45,000 litres of diesel fuel collided with another truck - resulting in the death of the truck's driver and injuring several others

"Fires have always been a concern for buildings but increasingly the effects of fire on bridges is important because they form critical links in busy urban infrastructure," says Dr. Green.

Dr. Green's area of expertise is the fire resistance of concrete structures. He is also available to comment on how engineers consider fire safety in bridges and how they can evaluate the strength and repair fire-damaged bridges.
