AVAILABLE EXPERT: New plan for income splitting

Thursday, October 30, 2014

Queen’s University taxation expert Kathy Lahey is available to comment on Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s plan to allow income splitting by parents with children younger than 18 once the federal budget is balanced.

“Parental income splitting is a gift to the rich, an insult to the rest even with a $2,000 cap,” says Professor Lahey. “Parental income splitting was always only designed to help the most well-off Canadians – by design, it cannot help those who need assistance with child care the most.”
