AVAILABLE EXPERT: Oilsands companies halt production as wildfire rages on

Monday, May 9, 2016

Queen’s University expert Warren Mabee is available to comment on the current state of the oil industry as the huge wildfire that burned down entire neighbourhoods in Fort McMurray enters its second week. Thousands of evacuees, many of whom are essential oil industry workers, are unable to return to work as Fort McMurray is still under an evacuation notice.

“The fires around Fort McMurray have temporarily taken much of Canada’s oilsand production offline,” says Dr. Mabee. “This will impact the economies of the province and the country. In the global sense, however, this disaster is likely to have a limited impact on prices and supplies.”
