AVAILABLE EXPERT - Passing of Sir George Martin

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Queen's University music professor, Robb MacKay, is available to comment on the passing of famed music producer Sir George Martin. Martin was perhaps best known for signing The Beatles to their first record deal after hearing their demo tape in 1962. Throughout his career, he produced 30 number one singles in the UK and 23 in the US. He also produced tracks for a variety of other acts including, Sir Elton John, Celine Dion and Kenny Rogers.

"The Beatles and George Martin: Pay a great deal of attention to that man behind the curtain," says Professor MacKay. "If John Lennon and Paul McCartney thought George Martin was worth listening to, who are we to disagree? This is the legacy of one of the most important producers in the history of popular music."

Professor MacKay is available for phone interviews for print and radio.
