Available Expert - Premier Wynne announces increase to minimum wage

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Queen’s University labour expert Bradley Weinberg is available to comment on Premier Kathleen Wynne’s plan to increase the minimum wage in Ontario to $15 an hour. The increase will be phased in over the next 18 months.

“In undertaking the concurrent reform of both the labour and employment laws in Ontario, the Wynne government is taking a multidimensional approach to tackling the problem of precariousness in the Ontario workforce,” says Dr. Weinberg. “It will be interesting to see if the proposed reforms indicate whether the government places more emphasis on the adjustment of labour standards in the ESA or the facilitation of access to unionization in the LRA as the cure to that which plagues the Ontario labour market and its workers.”

Please note Dr. Weinberg is based in Ottawa.
