AVAILABLE EXPERT – Proposed expansion of Canadian Forces Primary Reserve

Queen’s University defence policy expert Douglas Bland is available to comment on a campaign pledge by Conservative leader Stephen Harper to expand the size of the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve from 24,000 to 30,000 over four years. Mr. Harper also pledged an increased role for the naval reserve in costal defence, increased training for domestic incidences and a streamlined, shortened recruiting process for prospective reservists.

Dr. Bland is a professor emeritus in the Queen’s University School of Policy Studies and the former chair of Queen’s University Defence Management Studies. Dr. Bland served as an armoured officer in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1961-1990, attaining the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

Dr. Bland is available for radio and print media on Monday, Aug. 17.
