Available Expert - Queen’s expert speaks to the high inflation rates

    Wednesday, January 19, 2022

Queen’s expert, Eugene Lang (Policy Studies) is available to talk about the rise in inflation rates. Prof. Lang can speak to how and why inflation could be a hot topic during the next election in Canada.

In December 2021, the consumer price index had risen 4.8 per cent from the previous year, making this the biggest inflation increase in over 30 years. This means that Canadians are spending more for the same amount on items like groceries and gas. Many speculate that this rise in inflation means the Bank of Canada will raise interest rates. The Bank of Canada is set to make a rate announcement next week.

“Inflation could be the dominant issue in the next federal election,” said Prof. Lang.
