Available Expert - Suspect charged with murder after eight people are killed at a Georgia spa

Thursday, March 18, 2021

Queen’s law expert Noah Weisbord is available to comment on the Atlanta spa shooting.

Eight people were killed. The attack comes amid a sharp uptick in crimes against Asian-Americans.

“21 year old Robert Aaron Long has confessed to shooting and killing eight people in a rampage spanning three Atlanta area spas. Six of the people killed were Asian women. A surprising number of pundits are finding it difficult to process the fact that the attack might have been motivated by both sexist and anti-Asian animus rather than one or the other. Law enforcement seems unlikely to prosecute Long's attack as an anti-Asian hate crime. But Long’s rampage is the most recent to occur in a context of rising anti-Asian and misogynistic violence and eventually the two trends were bound to intersect” says Weisbord.
