Available Expert - TD halting use of credit cards to buy cryptocurrency

Monday, February 26, 2018

Queen’s University business professor John-Kurt Pliniussen is available to comment on Canada’s TD bank halting crypto credit card purchases. The Canadian multinational banking and financial services company is halting the use of credit cards to buy cryptocurrency as it conducts a review of the market.

“This is a big mistake for TD and they will lose business to other lending institutions,” says Dr. Pliniussen. “Most Canadians have several credit cards with several different banks. It is now possible and easy to buy crypto currencies with credit and debit cards. It is little different than purchasing different currencies at a money exchange with your debit card. I want to make my own decisions about where and how to invest and I am paying bank fees to be allowed to do that. The more options and freedom I have, the better I will like it.”
