AVAILABLE EXPERT – Theatre legend Michael Burgess loses battle with cancer

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Queen’s University music professor Bruce Kelly is available to comment on the passing of Canadian musical theatre legend Michael Burgess. Mr. Kelly was a personal friend of Mr. Burgess’.

“My first meeting with Michael Burgess was at the University of Toronto and although he had already graduated and I was a student, I remember what a consummate artist he was,” says Mr. Kelly. “He always met my students backstage after a performance of Les Mis. I also remember when I was working with the Ganaraska Festival Theatre in Cobourg, the advice Michael would give us and introduce us to people in the business. He was cordial and warm and his love of musical theatre shone out of his eye. This is a great loss to the musical theatre world.”
