AVAILABLE EXPERT – Truth and Reconciliation Report released

Monday, December 14, 2015

Queen’s University political expert Kathy Brock is available to comment on the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s final report. It is being presented Tuesday, December 15 in Ottawa. Justice Murray Sinclair, along with commissioners Marie Wilson and Chief Wilton Littlechild, are presenting the final report.

“The Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission represents an important watershed in relations between the Canadian Government and First Nations,” says Dr. Brock. “Expectations are high and many expect the recommendations to provide a clear path into the future. However, past experience has demonstrated that previous commission recommendations have been ignored or only partly implemented, thus entrenching a sense of disillusionment and cynicism. Will these recommendations provide short term answers that can be implemented in a timely fashion and a long term direction to improving relations and lives? Will they build a bridge between the solitudes in Canada?”
