AVAILABLE EXPERT: VISA puts pressure on other FIFA sponsors

    Friday, May 29, 2015

Queen’s University marketing expert Tandy Thomas is available to comment on Visa publicly warning FIFA that it might end its sponsorship if the governing body does not clean up its act. This public warning is putting pressure on other FIFA sponsors to act.

“VISA’s response to the FIFA scandal is a commendable ethical and strategic move,” says Dr. Thomas. “At this juncture, it’s imperative for FIFA sponsors to distance themselves from even the mere perceptions of being linked to something unethical. As such, a strong response is warranted. It’s also important for the response to bring about actual change, and not just be posturing. This is why it’s vital that all major sponsors act in unison – it will hurt FIFA to lose one major sponsor, but it might not bring about real change in the organization. Losing all major sponsors, however, would be devastating.”

Please note Dr. Thomas is only available for phone interviews.
