Queen’s University marketing and consumer culture expert Tandy Thomas is available to comment on Women’s Running Magazine’s new cover featuring a “plus-size” model. The magazine cover has made headlines, bringing into question how weight and body image are perceived and treated in communities of runners and physical fitness. 

“The running community has evolved to allow for this kind of heterogeneity”, says Dr. Thomas. “Runners who don’t fit the “skinny, fast dude” stereotype are being recognized as important, valued members of the community.”
