Available Expert - Yemen Prime Minister prepares to flee as separatists advance on Aden

Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Queen’s University expert on the Middle East Houchang Hassan-Yari is available to comment on the increasing political instability and violence sweeping Yemen.

"The civil war that divided Yemen has taken regional dimensions since the intervention of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates," says Dr. Hassan-Yari. “The stalemate of the war took on a new dimension this week when Yemeni allies of the Saudis and Emiratis entered deadly disputes that led to more deaths and devastation.”

“More localized fighting can be expected as the proxy war in Yemen between Riyadh and Tehran continues to rage,” he says. “Making matters worse, Yemen continues to be one of the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in the Middle East."

Please note, Dr. Hassan-Yari (who speaks French, English and Farsi) wants to be identified in the media as an expert on the Middle East from Queen’s University and Royal Military College.
