AVAILABLE EXPERTS – Back-to-school update

Thursday, August 27, 2015

The following Queen’s University experts are available for comment.

Christopher DeLuca (Faculty of Education) - Queen's University education expert Christopher DeLuca is available for comment on classroom assessment and how it supports student learning.

"Assessment has become a central part of teaching and learning in elementary and secondary schools. Unlike schooling from years ago, classroom assessment is now far more than just testing," says Dr. DeLuca. "Teachers are beginning to integrate the power of assessment to support student learning. Integration of high-quality teacher and peer feedback, sharing of learning goals and success criteria, and structured self-assessments, make students more accountable and aware of their learning. Building positive classroom learning cultures that leverage assessment tasks have been shown to positively support achievement."

Richard Reeve (Faculty of Education) - Queen’s University education expert Richard Reeve is available to comment on the change to a four term Bachelor of Education program and the use of D2L (Desire To Learn) to support the new program. D2L is an online learning platform that supports the new program.

He can also comment on the university’s continued work with the Ministry of Education to explore how our teacher candidates can make use of D2L that Queen’s students help pilot last year.

Lynda Colgan (Faculty of Education), Keith McWhirter (IT Services), Tandy Thomas (School of Business) and Rina Gupta (Psychology) are also available for comment. Please see our Monday, August 24 or Tuesday, August 25 pitch for details on their expertise.
