AVAILABLE EXPERTS: Mental Health Week 2015

Queen’s University has a number of experts who can comment on this week's Mental Health Week, an annual national event the encourages people to learn, talk and reflect on issues relating to mental health.

Terry Krupa (Rehabilitation Therapy) is available to comment on disability related to mental illness and employment and productivity as it relates to mental illness. She has also researched the lives of people with mental illness including work, school, home and family.

Tom Hollenstein (Psychology) is available to discuss a two year trial he is running to determine whether the video game MindLight can help youth cope with and conquer their anxiety.Players wear a neurofeedback headset called MindWave that measures the player’s level of relaxation or anxiety and incorporates it into key features of game play. Through the game, it’s hoped that players will learn to deal with anxious situations in a safe space.

Psychiatrist Roumen Milev (Psychiatry) can comment on depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and other affective disorders. Currently, his main focus of research is stigma.

Mike Condra (HCDS, Psychology) is available to discuss mental health, as well as the mental health of young men (16 and up). Dr. Condra is a registered psychologist and currently the Director of Health, Counseling and Disability Services at Queen’s.
