AVAILABLE EXPERTS – Statistics Canada second quarter GDP report

Monday, August 31, 2015

Two experts from Queen’s University are available to comment on the release of Statistics Canada’s Gross Domestic Product report for June. The report is said to state that Canada has entered a state of technical recession – defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth.

Don Drummond (Stauffer-Dunning Fellow, School of Policy Studies) is available to discuss the effects the report will have on Canada’s economy moving forward and whether the report should be cause for alarm.

Jonathan Rose (Political Studies) is available to discuss the effects of the report on the 2015 Federal Election – specifically, how this may affect the party leaders’ strategies moving forward, effects on potential support or voting behaviour, how each party will try to capitalize on or minimize these results.

Professors Drummond and Rose will be available for interviews on Tuesday, September 1, following the release of the Statistics Canada Report.

To arrange an interview, please contact communications officer Chris Armes at 613-533-6000 ext. 77513 or chris.armes@queensu.ca or Anne Craig at 613-533-2877 or anne.craig@queensu.ca at Queen’s University News and Media Services Department in Kingston, Ont., Canada.
