AVAILABLE EXPERTS – Trudeaumania and the APEC Summit

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Queen's University historian Christo Aivalis is available to comment on the reception Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received from the Canadian and international press and public since taking office, including the recent "#APECHottie" hashtag and swarms of fans. He can also provide a comparison and contrast to the Prime Minister's father, Pierre, who also received tremendous public response during his tenure.

"I think there is a uniqueness to both Trudeaus in that they captured so deeply the imaginations and attention of not only Canadians, but of people around the world," says Dr. Aivalis."You would see this with Pierre, as he was often the centre of attention at early international meetings, and how he captured the interest of American media in a way you didn't see with other Canadian PMs. Of course, one can also draw deep similarities with how fans, especially young women, fawned over both men. The key difference now seems to be that the technology makes such interactions more personal."

Dr. Aivalis is available for interviews on November 19.
