Debate on assisted dying

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Today Canada’s top court will discuss Canada’s ban on physician-assisted suicide and Queen’s University bioethics expert Udo Schuklenk is available for comment.

The issue was last considered in 1993 when it was ruled that the ban remain in place. Today, supporters of the decriminalization of physician-assisted suicide believe the laws need to change.

Dr. Schuklenk is currently the Ontario Research Chair in Bioethics and is a supporter of the decriminalization of assisted dying. He chaired an international expert panel drafting a landmark Royal Society of Canada report on end-of-life decision-making in Canada.
