As the academic year comes to a close and students prepare to move out for the summer, Queen’s University is working with several non-profit organizations in the Kingston community, including Habitat for Humanity and the St, Vincent de Paul society to make sure those in need can be helped. The second annual Queen’s Drop and Swap event will see all unclaimed items donated to charities at the end of each day. Certain items will be set aside for charities that have identified specific needs.
The Queen’s Drop and Swap takes place on April 27, 28, 29 and 30 in the parking lot of Rideau Hall, 207 Stuart Street.
Students are invited to donate a wide variety of household items, including furniture, small appliances, kitchenware, electronics, clothing, office supplies, linens, and non-perishable food items. These items are then free for other students or community members to take.
Queen’s University is committed to diverting waste from landfill and supporting the local Kingston community while alleviating the stress of moving by allowing students to drop off unwanted, donatable items during move-out.
What: Media is invited to attend one of the events where students will be dropping off and picking up items like furniture, household items, and electronics. Interviews with event organizers will also be available onsite.
