Media Advisory - Queen's University hosts Northern Research Symposium

KINGSTON - The Queen’s Northern Research Symposium is an annual one-day event gathering faculty and students – who work in the Canadian North – from all departments across campus.


Graduate students and faculty from a variety of departments presenting their northern research. Keynote speakers include:

  • Dr. Elyn Humphreys (Geography and Environmental Studies, Carleton University) giving a talk entitled Have tundra ecosystems become net sources of carbon dioxide?
  • Dr. Daniel Fortier (Department of Geography, Université de Montréal) will be speaking on permafrost dynamics, mitigation techniques and adaptation.
  • Dr. Valerie Michaelson (Faculty of Public Health Sciences and School of Religion, Queen’s University) will present on Arctic research, reconciliation and the connections that make us human.
