Media Advisory - Queen's University installs new principal Patrick Deane, honours former principal Daniel Woolf

Friday, November 8, 2019

KINGSTON – Queen’s University is set to install Patrick Deane as the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor at a special convocation on Tuesday, November 12. This will be the first installation ceremony in ten years, and will be the first opportunity in a decade for the Queen’s community to experience the traditions that come with installing a new principal and vice-chancellor.

During the same ceremony, Queen’s University will honour former Principal Daniel Woolf with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

The installation is open to everyone and, during the ceremony, Dr. Deane will deliver his installation address, which is often considered to be a keystone speech for a Principal’s term of office.

The purpose of the ceremony is to officially bestow the rights and privileges that come with the role of Principal and Vice-Chancellor. At the ceremony, Dr. Deane will receive his official academic dress and will take the Pledge of Office.

The installation ceremony takes place Tuesday, November 12 at 3:30 pm at Grant Hall. The media are invited to a media opportunity starting at 2 pm at Benidickson House. Both Drs. Deane and Woolf will be on hand for interviews.
