Media Advisory - Ukulele band raises funds for cancer research at Queen's

Tuesday, September 19, 2017

A group of four local youth have formed a unique band and, following a concert Wednesday night in Springer Market Square, will be making a donation to the Queen’s University Terry Fox Research Institute Studentships. The program was established to produce future leaders in translational cancer research in Canada.

The four long-time friends from Sydenham Public School decided to put their musical talents to good use. Clara, Annie, Bella and Lucy formed CABL a ukulele band that has been busking for a number of weeks this summer. Tomorrow the band will be plying its talent at the 100+ Women Who Care meeting and raising funds for the Terry Fox program at Queen’s.

CABL is asking the community to donate toonies and loonies during the performance.

This program provides young investigators, including undergraduate and graduate students, with training and hands-on experience in transdisciplinary research while broadening their perspective on the cancer problem. Students also participate in community events to highlight their own research and progress in cancer research at Queen’s.

The event takes place Wednesday, September 20 at 6:15 pm.
