Report suggests government scientists are being muzzled

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Queen’s University communication expert Vincent Mosco, professor emeritus and former Canada Research Chair in Communication and Society, can comment on a new report suggesting federal government scientists are being muzzled by media policies.

The report found Canadian government scientists face far more restrictions on talking to the media than their US counterparts.

“We now have research that backs up the anecdotal evidence that Canada's system of communicating research is broken,” says Dr. Mosco. “It must be fixed because good policy needs to be based on sound information and our democracy is only as strong as the quality of information available to citizens.”

Please note Dr. Mosco is based in Ottawa.
