Today, the court handed down its sentence in the case of Zijie Wang, a PhD candidate found guilty of two charges: Administer a Noxious Substance and Aggravated Assault, both related to an attack on a postdoctoral fellow at Queen’s. Zijie Wang was sentenced to 7 years, concurrently, on Administer a Noxious Substance and Aggravated Assault. The court allowed for pre-sentence custody, making the remaining time to serve 5.97 years.
Our hearts go out to the victim and his family; we recognize this highly unusual and upsetting crime continues to have a significant impact on everyone involved.
The victim in this case has expressed a desire for privacy and we wish to respect that and will not comment further.
