Fire alarm system being upgraded in Richardson Laboratory

Beginning on Monday, Dec. 17, Siemens Building Technologies will be performing work to upgrade the fire alarm system in Richardson Laboratory. Work will include maintenance on the fire alarm panel in the main entrance off Stuart Street, and device replacement throughout the building.

On Tuesday, Dec. 18, the fire alarm system for the whole building will be shut down to facilitate work, and a fire watch will be in place until work is completed at approximately 4 pm. If a fire should occur during the watch period, air horns will be sounded repeatedly to alert building occupants of a fire and to signal that they should begin an evacuation. In the afternoon, workers will perform audible testing of the new fire alarm panel. The alarm will need to be sounded briefly and intermittently over the course of the testing period (30 – 60 minutes). Once the new panel is verified as fully operational, the fire watch will end.

For the remainder of the week, workers will be replacing fire alarm devices in various areas of the building.
