Flags on campus that are currently lowered to honour Cpl. Nathan Cirillo will remain lowered to honour retired Queen’s staff member Donald A. Redmond who died on Oct. 22. He served as chief librarian of Queen's University from 1966-77.
He earned degrees from Mount Allison University, McGill University and the University of Illinois, and began a career in technical librarianship that included positions in Nova Scotia, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Turkey and Kansas before he came to Queen's. His interests ranged from Meccano, railways and steam machinery to church history and the study of Sherlock Holmes (about which he wrote two scholarly books).
A memorial service will be held at Sydenham Street United Church on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Canada, Mission and Service Fund -- Education.
