Queen’s Reads book available for pick up

The 2019-20 edition of Queen’s Reads, a common reading program aimed at engaging the Queen’s community in a dialogue, will be reading The Boy on the Beach by Tima Kurdi.

Interested Queen’s students and community member will be able to pick up a free copy starting Monday, Sept. 2 at various locations around campus.

Participants may join in discussion groups, events, and a visit from the author, no matter how much (or little) of the book they’ve read.

The Boy on the Beach is an intimate and poignant memoir about the family of Alan Kurdi – a young Syrian boy who became the global emblem for the desperate plight of millions of Syrian refugees – and of the many extraordinary journeys the Kurdis have taken, spanning countries and continents. The book explores newcomer experiences, the global refugee crisis, the politicization of tragedy, and the love and hope that one family shared in the face of grief and adversity.

If you require the book in an alternate format for accessibility purposes, you will be able to contact the Adaptive Technology Centre at adaptive.technology.centre@queensu.ca. Read what you can and come out to our events during the year. All Queen’s students are invited to participate.
